DAVID YARRITU FOR WEST ELM

Please take a look at the West Elm Spring Catalog; David Yarritu was brought on board to Art Direct over 20 pages of it- all of it shot in studio in San Francisco, California. A stand out story celebrating all things striped.

For this, David took inspiration from the work of Roy Lichtenstein, as well as the movie musical adaption of the comic book character, Dick Tracy. It was the colors used in the film- the intense reds, yellows, greens, and blues that caught David's eye (the performances of Warren Beatty and Madonna instantly forgotten).

In a section devoted to work by ETSY artists and crafts people, David designed a set based on the mid-century California Eichler homes. Set builders worked to create an in-studio model home in essence, which included a fireplace, clerestory windows, and a patio beyond the floor to ceiling glass. It was a fresh direction, different from the brownstone and loft interiors that West Elm usually employs. Everyone working in the studio wanted to move right in!
