Kate's talent for styling emerged when Santa brought her a dollhouse. She began arranging and decorating, shopping for swatches and paint chips, using her mother's fabric scraps to make miniature curtains and bedspreads, and redecorating for each season and holiday. Another childhood influence was Kate's stylish great-aunt, who offered glamorous dress up opportunities, with Pucci scarves, YSL jackets and Charles Jourdan heels in a perfectly organized closet. Kate pursued her interests, earning a B.A. from Loyola University in Fine Arts and studying Art History at the American University in Paris. After assisting at Nick Jr. and Child Magazines, Kate was on-staff at Anthropologie for 8 years, holding the position of Senior Stylist when she left to join Pat Bates & Associates.

Question and Answer with Kate Jordan:

Design Inspiration: My father was a founding producer of Nightline. It only occurred to me in the last few years his incredible influence -- how great the role of imagery plays in telling a story. His work is very refined, researched and well-edited, never last-minute or slapped together.

Trend you miss: I'm a nostalgic person, but more for events or people.

Influential movies: I must have watched The Royal Tenenbaums a hundred times. That movie, and just about everything else Wes Anderson touches, is pure magic. Such incredible attention to detail in everything: the dialogue, the sets, the music. Every element is so considered.


Prized Possession: My long-haired Chihuahuas, George and Sadie, and my Burmese cat, Micah. Strangely enough, they all share the exact same birth date!

Hobby: It sounds so cliché, but I really love going to antique shops, flea markets, garden shops and used book shops. I love sifting through, with hopes of a eureka discovery moment.


Motto: Never say no. I've learned that having a limited attitude can't get you far in life.

On the nightstand: About 14 magazines are precariously piled atop a book about astrology and Last Exit to Brooklyn.
